Creative Rights Collective

Bridging Perspectives in AI and Music Creation

The Creative Rights Collective (CRC) is an initiative of the AI Song Contest (AISC) for artists, industry professionals, researchers, and policymakers to meet, discuss and explore evolving tensions and opportunities that emerge as AI technologies reshape songwriting and the broader music ecosystem. Aligned with the AISC Values, the goal is to work towards developing a common understanding of what constitutes responsible AI-songwriting through an adaptive approach in collaboration with a diverse set of stakeholders holding similar values.

A Community for Dialogue and Understanding

In 2024, as the debate around artists' rights and AI intensified, various groups expressed concerns about the implications of artificial intelligence in creative fields. The CRC aims to create a space where different perspectives can be heard and understood, with a particular focus on including those with direct experience using AI in their creative practice.

Together with the AI Song Contest (AISC) foundation, we're bringing together a diverse community to foster constructive dialogue about how AI can be developed and deployed responsibly in music creation.

Be Part of the Conversation

The Creative Rights Collective represents a unique opportunity to help shape ethical AI-songwriting practices and explore the relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity. We recognize that AI has proven to be a truly transformative technology with both significant challenges and new creative opportunities—from the ability to separate instruments from a full song, to lyrical assistants, to completely new sonic palettes and genre combinations.

Our Core Values

Our core values center on transparency and education. We advocate for AI systems with transparent training methods and reviewable data, with the CRC committed to making its own work and discussions transparent and accountable. We're dedicated to advancing understanding through ongoing educational opportunities and open dialogue between all stakeholders in the music ecosystem.

Our inaugural CRC meeting in 2024 was hosted by Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich alongside the AI Song Contest Award Show. The event featured two informative panels:

Artists, AI and Creative Rights: With valuable insights from Rania Kim, Lua Jungck, and Natasha Mangal on AI in creative practices.

Music Generation Tools Panel: Featuring perspectives from Ben Cantil, Stefan Lattner, Julian Lenz, CJ Carr, and Ryan Groves on innovation and challenges in AI tool development.

The discussions also included contributions from the finalists of the 2025 AI Song Contest and other guests, including Diamond Duggal, Andrea Agostinelli, Benjamin Gut, Daniel Trujillo, Jackson Loth, Pedro Sarmento, Sara Adkins and many others from across the music and technology landscape.

Key Takeaways:

  • AI tools inspire creativity and accelerate iteration in music production

  • Training data is a critical issue—its sourcing, diversity, and ethical usage require attention, along with the need for clear agreements on large datasets

  • The potential impact of deals between major record labels and AI developers on artist rights and remuneration remains uncertain

  • Collaborating with artists on smaller, tailored models could open doors to equitable revenue-sharing for artists and empower creators
