About the TEAM
We are W2S, a team of three Computer Science students from the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG). With a shared passion for both code and music, we approached this challenge by building our own AI system from the ground up. Our process involved using generative algorithms to create the core melodic and harmonic structures of our song. This entry is a direct result of our technical exploration—a piece born from data, algorithms, and our fascination with the potential of AI in art. It represents our vision for a future where coding is a new form of creative expression.
About the SONG
"The Raven" - A dynamic techno composition that reimagines Edgar Allan Poe's literary masterpiece through algorithmic creativity and electronic music production. Our W2S (Words to Sounds) algorithm transformed Poe's complex poetry into a musical foundation that we developed into a unique electronic composition, featuring driving rhythms, atmospheric synthesizers, and innovative sound design.
About the HUMAN-AI PROCESS
Our song "The Raven'" emerged through a unique three-stage collaboration between artificial intelligence and human creativity. First, our custom W2S algorithm analyzed Edgar Allan Poe's poem using natural language processing to understand its emotional tone, complexity, and rhythmic structure.
The algorithm then generated a complete MIDI composition with separate melody and chord tracks, where every note was determined by the text's characteristics. Word length influenced pitch selection, syllable counts determined note durations, and sentence structure shaped musical phrasing. This created the foundation we imported into BandLab for human artistic development. We duplicated tracks, transposed octaves, and layered atmospheric elements while preserving the algorithmic core.
