Synthetic Beat Brigade is the winner of the AI Song Contest 2023!

“How would you touch me?” from Synthetic Beat Brigade (Netherlands) is the overall winner of this year’s competition by combination of jury and public decision.

In the Award Show on Saturday November 4, on RTVE Play, the scores of the experts and audience voting were announced. PAMP! with “Florespiña” won the Audience Trophy being the public favourite entry, while Dadabots got the most points from the jury with “Bandschleifer”. Kemi Sulola, Harriet Raynor and Rebel Algorithms came in third place with their song “VTGO” tied with team PAMP!.

The AI Song Contest is an international competition showcasing the creative potential of human–AI co-creativity in the songwriting process. Teams consisting of musicians, researchers, music producers, data scientists, developers – and anyone else interested in the combination of music and artificial intelligence (AI) – collaborate to create a song with AI as a creative partner.

The Grand Final of the AI Song Contest will take place in the vibrant city of A Coruña (Galicia, Spain), on November 4, 2023. This edition will bring the AI & Creation Day in CSA da Cidade das TIC, and a spectacular Award Show in Studio Follow.

This year's event, themed "Walking with AI" (O Camiño da IA), celebrates the diversity of ways of working AI in music, with artists at the center of the composition process. It promises to be a captivating day ending with a live TV show broadcasted by RTVE Play with an enthusiastic audience. Attendees can expect an immersive experience celebrating human-AI co-creation, Galician culture and its amazing festivities.

How to arrive

TO A CORUÑA: By plane from the main European capitals to A Coruña Airport. By car, if you live in Spain or Portugal, and by train, specially with Renfe Tren Oficial, the official transport of this year’s AI Song Contest, which connects Galicia with the surrounding area with proximity (Cercanías) and long distance (AVE) services.

TO CSA DA CIDADE DAS TIC: By public bus L1A from Obelisco to A Pasaxe (Pedralonga - Fábrica de Armas stop) and also taking L20 and L22 buses, and by car to Avenida de Pedralonga s/n, 15009 - A Coruña (with free parking in Cidade das TIC). There are some restaurants near to the venue for lunch: Marc de Café, Casa Pilar or Mesón A Rúa.

TO STUDIO FOLLOW: By public bus L11 from Praza de Pontevedra to Marineda City (Severo Ochoa stop), and by car to Rúa Gambrinus 43A3, 15008 - A Coruña (with parking on the surroundings). There will be a unique free bus service before (20:00-21:00 CET) and after the show (23:45-00:45 CET) to bring people to arrive to the venue and to come back to the city centre (Praza de Pontevedra). Have fun in our cantina during the show!

Eurostars Hotels Atlántico is the official accommodation of this edition, a great place to rest and have fun in the heart of A Coruña, near to the most important tourist attractions: María Pita Square, the Old City, A Mariña Avenue, Méndez Núñez Gardens, Hércules Tower, the Promenade and Riazor and Orzán Beaches, Scientific Museums, Santo Antón Castle and San Pedro Hill.

The AI Song Contest is a music competition all about collaboration between human and AI. Teams are encouraged to experiment, mix multiple tools (open source and their own) together, explore or enhance new techniques, and use data in creative ways during composition process.

The festival welcomes a wide range of musical genres, highlighting the diverse and creative ways in which musicians can partner with AI to compose and perform a song.

The public and a jury of AI and music-industry professionals will judge not only the quality of the entry but also the quality and innovation in human–AI interaction. The winner is announced in the AI Song Contest Award Show, after the AI & Creation Day full of panel discussions.

Mission

The AI Song Contest Foundation organizes the AI Song Contest every year to

  • inspire and encourage people making music to use AI as a creative tool and in a fair way

  • cultivate a collaborative platform for artists of human AI co-creation

  • showcase the results and the process of human-AI co-creation for a global audience.

Why we do it

The AI Song Contest was invented in 2020 by Dutch public broadcaster VPRO. Since then the AI Song Contest has been organized independently in Liège, Belgium (2021, 2022) and A Coruna, Spain (2023) by an international and interdisciplinary team.
