Synthetic Beat Brigade is the winner of the AI Song Contest 2023!

“How would you touch me?” from Synthetic Beat Brigade (Netherlands) is the overall winner of this year’s competition by combination of jury and public decision.

In the Award Show on Saturday November 4, on RTVE Play, the scores of the experts and audience voting were announced. PAMP! with “Florespiña” won the Audience Trophy being the public favourite entry, while Dadabots got the most points from the jury with “Bandschleifer”. Kemi Sulola, Harriet Raynor and Rebel Algorithms came in third place with their song “VTGO” tied with team PAMP!.

The AI Song Contest is an international competition showcasing and rewarding the creative potential of human–AI co-creativity in the songwriting and music production process.

2023 Edition

The Grand Final of the AI Song Contest took place in the vibrant city of A Coruña (Galicia, Spain), on November 4, 2023.

The AI & Creation Day took place at CSA da Cidade das TIC, and an award show was broadcasted live from Studio Follow.

The AI Song Contest is a music competition all about collaboration between human and AI. Teams are encouraged to experiment, mix multiple tools (open source and their own) together, explore or enhance new techniques, and use data in creative ways during composition process.

The contest welcomes a wide range of musical genres, highlighting the diverse and creative ways in which musicians can partner with AI to compose and perform a song.

The public and a jury of AI and music-industry professionals will judge not only the quality of the entry but also the quality and innovation in human–AI interaction. The winner is announced in the AI Song Contest Award Show, after the AI & Creation Day full of panel discussions.

Mission

The AI Song Contest Foundation organizes the AI Song Contest every year to

  • inspire and encourage people making music to use AI as a creative tool and in a fair way

  • cultivate a collaborative platform for artists of human AI co-creation

  • showcase the results and the process of human-AI co-creation for a global audience.

Why we do it

The AI Song Contest was invented in 2020 by Dutch public broadcaster VPRO. Since then the AI Song Contest has been organized independently in Liège, Belgium (2021, 2022) and A Coruna, Spain (2023) by an international and interdisciplinary team.
